06 · A first reading for legal teams
A contract project shortens the first reading. It does not sign anything.
Counsel loses hours on the same indemnity, term, and renewal language. We build a first pass that is consistent, sourced, and easy to discard.
The problem we are hired to fix
Review tools that hide the clause and offer a confident score are worse than a slow reader. Lawyers need the language, the location, and a reason.
What the project builds
- A playbook from your paper. Preferred positions, fallback positions, and clauses you always escalate. Taken from contracts you already trust.
- A sourced first reading. Each note points at the clause. Unusual terms are listed. Standard terms stay quiet.
- An export a lawyer will actually use. A memo or a marked list in the format your team already reviews. No new system of record.
How the project runs
Four phases. You approve the shape before we build it.
- 01 · Listen
The contracts that consume the week
We pick one family, vendor paper, customer paper, or leases, and read the playbook you wish juniors followed.
- 02 · Shape
What “exception” means
You mark examples. We write the tests in plain language before any model is wired up.
- 03 · Build
The reading desk
Upload, first reading, human review. The lawyer’s edit is the product. The draft is not.
- 04 · Hand off
Measured on time returned
We compare a sample of reviewed contracts with and without the desk, and keep the tool only if the lawyer is faster and still comfortable signing their name.
The line we do not cross
- The tool is not a lawyer and not a signature.
- It does not decide risk appetite.
- Client documents are processed for the firm. We do not train a public model on them.
